LOWLY Merthyr Tydfil recorded just their second South Wales Cricket Associatio­n Division One win of the season with a 32-run victory at home to high-flying Cowbridge.

The home side won the toss and elected to bat, posting 154 all out from 45.5 overs.

Middle-order batsman Dylan Davies top-scored for Merthyr with a score of 30 as Thomas Harper took 3-32 for the visitors.

In response, Cowbridge were never allowed to build-up a head of steam with two of the side’s top three batsman dismissed for single-figure scores on their way to 122 all out as Merthyr recorded a priceless victory.

Mid-table Maesteg Celtic recorded a 29-run victory at home to Llandysul in a rain-affected game.

With the match reduced to 33 overs a side, the hosts posted a score of 133-6.

Ian Herbert put together a score of 49 for the home side with Llewelyn Hughes taking 2-14 for the visitors.

In reply, the visitors were bowled out on 105 from 29.5 overs with Phil Poole doing the damage for the hosts, recording figures of 4-18 as the hosts recorded their fourth victory of the season.

Meanwhile, Dafen Welfare recorded their fifth victory of the season with a 90-run victory at home Gowerton in a rain-affected clash.

Dafen won the toss and elected to bat, posting a score of 270-8 from their reduced 48 overs. Simon Davies top-scored for Dafen with a knock of 71.

Gowerton saw their top six batsman fall for just 70 runs in the chase with the visitors eventually being bowled out for 180 as the hosts claimed victory.

Bronwydd claimed just their second victory of the season with an eight-wicket victory at home to Aberdare.

The hosts won the toss and elected to field with Aberdare posting a score of 148 all out from 48 overs with Bronwydd’s Tom Gleeson taking 2-28 with the cherry.

In response, Bronwydd surpassed their victory target with four overs to spare, reaching 156-2 to seal victory.

In Division Two, Briton Ferry Steel maintained their fine run of form with a 29-run victory at home to Maesteg. The hosts lost the toss and were put in to bat by the visitors with Briton Ferry posting an imposing 231-6 from their 50 overs thanks to Steve Maddock’s 88. Maesteg hit back with 202-8 from their 50 overs but fell short of the home side’s total.
