RACING Equitation to make amends

-

PUNTERS got their fingers burnt when Equitation returned at Doncaster last month after a lengthy lay-off but can retrieve their money with interest back at Town Moor on Sunday.

Although beaten, the Roger Variantrained four-year-old made a promising comeback to finish fifth, only a length and three-quarters behind the winner, Watchable.

The fact he was sent off 7-2 favourite for a competitive sprint after 227 days off the track spoke volumes and Equitation is certainly worth another chance over the course and distance.

Before his enforced break, he had struck on his two previous starts, at Doncaster and Yarmouth.

A return to winning ways is on the cards and with only four races under his belt, the best may be yet to come from Equitation.

Knighted opened his account at the fifth attempt at Nottingham five weeks ago on his second outing following a 172-day absence.

Kevin Ryan’s charge has been put up 5lb for getting on top at the end of the extended mile to defeat Tight Lines by a length and three-quarters.

It does not look enough to stop the Sir Prancealot gelding doubling up in the Britvic Handicap.

Shabaaby can register an overdue Listed success in the British Stallion Studs EBF Cathedral Stakes at Salisbury.

The Kyllachy colt has failed in two previous efforts at this level, the first when he was only fourth to Rebel Assault in the Rockingham Stakes at York in October when an evens favourite.
