SOUTH Wales Cricket Associatio­n Division One leaders Gorseinon made it eight wins from nine league games this season with a five-wicket victory at home to Maesteg Celtic.

The table-toppers won the toss and elected to field, restrictin­g the visitors to 107 all out from 44.3 overs. Andrew Dyer was the pick of the bowlers for Gorseinon, taking 3-27.

In response, the hosts needed just 24.5 overs to surpass Maesteg’s total, reaching 108-5 with Kieran Howells scoring 46 as the hosts cruised to victory.

Second-placed Cowbridge recorded their first victory for three games with a comprehens­ive 180-run vic- tory away to Aberdare.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat, posting a huge 339-5 as they made hay at The Ynys.

Tom Merilaht made a majestic 176 not out with Ben Wright weighing in with a score of 120.

In response, Aberdare never got close to surpassing Cowbridge’s total with the hosts bowled out for 159 from 31.2 overs.

The basement battle between Merthyr Tydfil and Swansea Civil Service saw Merthyr emerge with a threewicke­t home victory. Swansea won the toss and elected to bat, managing to post a score of just 131 all out.

Chris Birch did the damage for Merthyr, taking 4-29 with the ball. In response, Merthyr reached 135-7 with middle order batsman Andrew Murphy putting together a score of 46 not out to see the hosts home.

Gowerton recorded their fifth victory of the season with a tight fiverun victory away to Llandysul.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat, posting a score of 270-6 with opener Mathew Mason hitting a huge 133.

In response, the hosts fell agonizingl­y short of their victory target, posting 265 from their 50 overs. Rhodri Phillips was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors, taking 3-32 as Gowerton clung on for victory.
