MAMMA MIA! ALEXA’S IN MUSICAL SPOTLIGHT

SHE’S starring in one the summer’s biggest films and chances are you might not even know she’s Welsh. Up-and-coming actress Alexa Davies is starring in the sequel to the Abba-centric musical Mamma Mia, alongside a star-studded cast including Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Julie Walters, Colin Firth and Cher.

And as crowds inevitably flock to the summer’s highly a nt i c i p a t e d feel-good film, people will no doubt be racking the ir brains as to where they’ve seen Alexa Davies Da before. Here’s everything y you need to know about the Welsh star. The 22-year-old ac actress, who comes from Rhuddlan on the t north coast of Wales, plays a young youn version of Julie Walters’ character, Rosie, R in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. Aga On Monday, July 16, she attended the world premiere premi at the Eventim Apollo, Hammersmit­h Hamm in London. And in a b behind-the-scenes interview w with Flicks Clips, Alexa explains explai how the film opens with the three young friends on their th graduation day in 1979. She said: “My “M version of Rosie is very simila similar to Julie’s I think, but obvious obviously when you’re younger, you you’re a bit more vulnerable, a bi bit more naive, just not as wise, and a that’s what I’ve gone for. “I let Julie do the wise, funny, non-naive stuff.” Alexa a added: “When I got the cal call to say they’d offered me young Rosie, I cried immediatel­y. i “Mostly “M knowing I was going to be a part of s something so wonderful de and exciting as a this, but also to find out I was going to be playing young Walters was huge for me. “It was a big exciting day.” Alexa, who attended Ysgol Dewi Sant in Rhyl and Ysgol Glan Clwyd in St Asaph, moved to London at the age of 17, after she was signed up with an acting agency when her talents shone in the Rhyl-based film, Vinyl.

And she’s also starred in a number of popular TV shows, most Julie notably Channel 4’s Raised By Wolves, where she played Aretha Garry.

The show was penned by Caitlin Moran and followed a large family raised by an unconventi­onal single mother on a council estate in Wolverhamp­ton.

Discussing Raised by Wolves, Alexa previously said: “It’s a great show because I think many people will be able to relate to it.”

You might also have spotted her in the BBC comedy Detectoris­ts, where she played Kate for 10 episodes alongside Toby Jones and Mackenzie Crook.

She also starred in the 2017 drama series Harlots, playing Betsey Fletcher.
