SOUTH Wales Cricket Associatio­n Division One title chasers Gorseinon recorded a thumping seven-wicket victory at home to strugglers Merthyr Tydfil, writes Andrew Deering.

The home side won the toss and elected to field. It proved a wise decision with the visitors being bowled all out for just 93 from 22.2 overs.

Josh Simmons was the pick of the bowlers for Gorseinon, taking 5-25 in a devastatin­g spell of bowling.

In response, Gorseinon reached 97-3 from just 14.1 overs with Greg Fisher and Simmons wrapping up victory for the hosts.

Meanwhile high-flyers Cowbridge recorded a 62-run victory away at Maesteg Celtic.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat, posting a formidable total of 268-4.

Ben Wright and Tom Merilaht starred for Cowbridge, scoring 129 and 68 in fine individual innings.

Maesteg Celtic hit back with 206-9 from their 50 overs with Tom Williams taking 3-37 and Brad Evans 2-26 to ensure victory for the visitors.

Strugglers Llandysul recorded a priceless six-wicket victory at home to Aberdare.

The home side won the toss and elected to field, restrictin­g the visitors to 110 all out from 35.5 overs.

Luke Swift did the damage with the ball for Llandysul, taking 5-33 in a fine spell of bowling.

In the chase, Llandysul reached 114-4 from 36.5 overs. Middle order batsmen Andrew Edwards and Llewelyn Hughes saw the hosts home with scores of 44 and 39 respective­ly.

In other action, visiting Dafen Welfare inflicted a crushing ninewicket defeat on basement boys Swansea Civil Service at Bishop Gore Playing Fields.

In Division Two, promotionc­hasers Briton Ferry Steel fell to a shock 22-run defeat away to local rivals Briton Ferry Town.
