SOUTH EAST WALES

-

MISKIN Manor kept their hopes of returning to the South Wales Premier Cricket League alive after a four-wicket victory at Abergavenny in Division One of the Thomas Carroll South East Wales Cricket League.

Aber posted 213-9 thanks to a stunning century from Andrew Jones (101) after winning the toss and opting to bat.

William Glenn backed him up with 33 while Daniel Hay was the pick of the bowlers with 3-50.

Hay continued that form with the bat as he smashed an unbeaten 71, which included 11 fours and a six, to help Miskin knock off the runs and stay at the top.

But Newbridge are not giving up hope of knocking them off the summit after a narrow seven-run victory over Pontypridd.

After winning the toss at Ynysangharad Park Newbridge bagged 239-6 thanks to Ryan Watkins’ unbeaten century (100no) as well as a sizeable contribution from Christopher Hartland (43).

Ponty ran them close in the chase. Skipper Josh Waughington hit 94 and Kieran Parish whacked 48 to lift them to 232 with just one wicket left after Gareth Palmer was run out by Will Davey. Watkins repeated that trick to dismiss Edward Smart and hand the victory to Newbridge.

Newbridge, who missed out on the title by a single point last year, are now 17 points behind leaders Miskin with a game in hand.

However, Chepstow’s title charge is all but over following their sixwicket defeat at the hands of Pentyrch.

Chepstow notched 193 from 49 overs before they were bowled out. Gareth Ansell (40) and Sam HopeBell (39) led the way but a fourwicket haul from Steve Hood saw them fall just shy of the 200-mark.

In response, Pentyrch captain Todd Wilcox hit 95 to lead his side to glory.
