New easyHotel in city set to open in 2019/20

-

A NEW easyHotel is set to open in the Welsh capital in 2019/20 – making it the first “super-budget” venue in Wales.

The company has announced that planning permission has been granted for the new 120-room hotel at 1-3 Fitzalan Place in Cardiff.

Earlier this year the chain announced plans to demolish the vacant Cromwell House, which is currently on the site.

The five-storey Cromwell House has been vacant since July 2016 after its only tenant, the University of South Wales, moved out.

The near 15,000sq ft hotel, where rooms can be booked in advance for as little as £20 a night, is set to open in 2019/20.

Around 69% of all easyHotel custom- ers are aged between 18 and 44. Based on a projected 90% room occupancy rate, its Cardiff hotel would accommodate more than 66,000 overnight guests a year.

Speaking recently, easyHotel’s chief executive Guy Parsons said: “We are delighted to be investing in Cardiff, a well-connected modern city that attracts 20 million visitors each year. We expect easyHotel Cardiff to attract a variety of leisure and business customers and look forward to being part of the city’s ongoing growth and success.”

The group now has 29 hotels in its portfolio. There are also plans to open a 174-room hotel in Switzerland, with four more hotels in Zurich and one in Basel over the next 14 months.
