How they rated

6KRISTOFFER NORDFELDT

Dealt with what little work he had to do before pulling up after taking a regulation catch at his near post. Rough luck on a man who has had to bide his time for the chance to be first-choice. Swansea will hope it is not too serious an issue.

7CONNOR ROBERTS

A very solid and dependable outing. Gives little away defensively and has the engine to keep getting up and down. Linked superbly with McBurnie during the latter stages.

8MIKE VAN DER HOORN (C)

Excellent. Exuded calm and authority as he and Rodon handled the threat of Nmecha well. A quiet man off the field, but one proving highly influential on it.

7MARTIN OLSSON

Had a very strong first half getting up and down his flank, and was solid defensively. Dropped off a bit after the break and got away with one misjudgement but a more than solid showing.

8JAY FULTON

Whereas his flicked header had been tipped over at Bramall Lane, this time the Scot was able to celebrate his first league goal in Swansea colours. Solid on the ball with some nice touches, but his tracking and pressing work were the defining characteristics of his workaholic performance.

7TOM CARROLL

Had a really bright first half. Had the confidence to take people on and get forward. Was less assertive after the break as Swansea found themselves pushed onto the back foot.

6JOEL ASORO

Set up Fulton’s header with a pin-point near-post cross and his pace gave Swansea a ready and willing outlet to relive pressure. Sacrificed for Grimes after Preston’s strong start to the second period.

7BERSANT CELINA

Caught the eye again. Not everything he does comes off, but he is always alert as shown with his cool distribution on the edge of his own box to send McKay scampering away. Put the yards in defensively too.

7BARRIE MCKAY

Not quite as prominent as last week, yet he still won a penalty, won the free-kick that led to the winner and very nearly laid on a goal for Joel Asoro. Brings real spark.

7OLI MCBURNIE

Will be disappointed with his penalty miss, but he got through an absolute mountain of work for his team. He was absolutely spent by the end but brought others into play nicely. Relishing his responsibilities.
