Look what turned up in parched reservoir

-

THE recent heatwave has revealed an old Ford Sierra on the steep, dried-up banks of a reservoir.

The discovery was made by Dyfed-Powys Police on Friday evening at Llyn Brianne reservoir in Powys.

Pictures show an old, rusted car being examined on a steep bank of the lake by Brecon Mountain Rescue Team.

The rescuers were called in to check that there was no-one inside.

In a tweet, they wrote: “An unusual call last night from DyfedPowys Police to investigate an old Ford Sierra exposed by receding water levels in Llyn Brianne Reservoir.

“Two members confirmed the vehicle had been there for many years and more importantly was unoccupied.”

The car was on a very steep bank so a rope team was needed to investigate.

Other rivers across Wales also face lower water levels after two months of low rainfall. Data from Natural Resources Wales (NRW) in July reveals several rivers across the country are getting closer to record lows set in previous dry summers.

July was one of the hottest months on record. Data from the Met Office show it was the third hottest July since 1910 in Wales, with the country seeing 41% more sunshine than average.

There was also more than a third, or 34%, less rain than average in Wales.
