Bedwas hit century as they send out warning

-

BEDWAS sent out a strong statement to their Principality Premiership rivals with a thumping 106-14 friendly win over Marlborough Nomads.

Joseph Scrivens looks set to play a pivotal role for the Wass and he left the field with 25 points to his name after scoring a try and smashing over 10 conversions.

Chris Budgeon followed him over the whitewash with a brace while Mike Callow, Jordan Rees, Dale Rodgers, Kane Teear-Bourge, Tom Candy, Rory Harries, Ryan Davies, Jakob Williams, James Richards, David Evans, Brynley Toms, Mike Hathaway and Phil Williams added further tries.

Jacob Chilcott completed the rest of the scoring with six points from the tee.

Elsewhere, referee Ian Davies was a busy man as Aberavon edged a competitive encounter with Pontypool 17-12 at the Talbot Athletic Ground.

A penalty try, Shaun Pearce and Chris Banfield steered the Wizards to victory but Pooler, who will be aiming to earn promotion to the Premiership this season, ran them close with Rhodri Usher and Craig Attwell both scoring tries while Kieran Meek kicked a conversion.

However, the main talking point was how often Davies had to show his yellow card in this friendly fixture.

Pooler won that particular battle 4-2 as Scott Matthews, Clayton Gullis, Martin Luckwell and Jordan Thomas were all sent to the sin-bin while Andrew Waite and Steffen Williams saw yellow for the Wizards.

Elsewhere, Pontypridd enjoyed a good workout at Clifton with a 52-28 victory but the Valley Commandos also had discipline issues.

Geraint Clark, Lloyd Rowlands, Chris Dicomidis, Rhodri Jones, Gary Williams, Alex Webber, Ryan Crowley and Adam Ashford ensured Ponty claimed the win, but Dale Stuckey and Ceri Sweeney both spent time in the sin-bin. Sweeney did manage to make amends with five conversions while Diggy Bird added a sixth.

Newport’s pre-season continued with a morale-boosting 54-5 win at National Championship outfit Newbridge.

Haydn Simons boosted his chances of starting Newport’s season opener against Carmarthen Quins with a hattrick of tries and seven conversions.

In other action, Bargoed beat Neath 40-28, Cardiff were 42-8 winners over Old Albanians while Bridgend Ravens suffered a narrow 31-27 defeat to Redingensians Rams.
