Liquid squirted from car prompts acid alert

-

POLICE were called to a street in Cardiff after reports that a mysterious liquid was being squirted from a car.

A black BMW was spotted squirting the liquid at people near The Plough on Merthyr Road, Whitchurch, at around 8pm on Friday.

There were rumours on media that the liquid was acid.

But South Wales police confirmed the liquid was not acid but “some type of sauce”. social

One witness said: “There was a lot of confusion.

“When I asked a passer-by, he said he thought it was an acid attack, a car drove past and sprayed the people outside the Plough with a ‘substance’.”

An employee at the Plough, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “There was a car passing by that was squirting some sort of browny-red liquid out of the window at customers. We think it might have been chili oil but we’re not entirely sure.

“They sent the services out just in case because they didn’t know what the liquid was.”

The pub worker said the emergency services weren’t there for long and left after about “five minutes”.

They added: “There was one fire crew, two ambulances and unmarked police were circling the area.”

South Wales Police are still investigating the incident and have asked anyone with information to contact them.

A spokeswoman said: “We can confirm this was not an acid attack but some type of sauce. We were called at 8.20pm on Friday night to Merthyr Road after liquid had been squirted at people from a black BMW.

“Our investigation is ongoing and anyone with information should contact 101 quoting occurrence number 1800332237.”
