CONNAH’S Quay Nomads lead the way in the JD Welsh Premier League – at least for 24 hours – after a 3-1 win over lowly Carmarthen Town at the Deeside Stadium.

Jay Owen fired Connah’s Quay into the lead on the stroke of half time with a ferocious volley but that was cancelled out by Liam Thomas early in the second half.

Andy Owens headed the hosts back in front with a close-range header before Ryan Wignall sealed the win on the counter.

They replaced The New Saints at the top of the table but Scott Ruscoe’s men can return to the summit if they beat Cardiff Met today.

Barry Town United’s excellent season continued with a narrow 1-0 victory over Aberystwyth Town.

Clayton Green’s first Barry goal was enough to hand all thee points to Gavin Chesterfield’s men and send them back to third.

Elsewhere, Llanelli Town fell to a fifth consecutive defeat as they were beaten 3-1 by Newtown at Stebonheath Park.

The Reds went ahead through James Loveridge’s fifth goal of the season but couldn’t hold onto the lead with Nick Rushton equalising before the break.

A stunning volley from Neil Mitchell then put Newtown ahead before Sam Phillips wrapped up the win late on.

Elsewhere, Bala were 2-1 winners over Llandudno at Maes Tegid.

Stuart J Jones scrambled home from a corner before Henry Jones doubled the lead with a close-range finish.

Alfons Fosu-Mensah, older brother of Manchester United defender and Fulham loanee Timothy, opened his Llandudno account with a late consolation.

The other game saw Cefn Druids and Caernarfon Town draw 1-1. Neil Ashton gave the Ancients the lead before Danny Brookwell’s second-half equaliser.
