How they rated

- BY DOMINIC BOOTH

NEIL ETHERIDGE

Couldn’t really prevent Dier’s opening goal, but half-spilled a couple of shots early on. Spurs probably should have worked him more in the first half – both Moura and Son missed the target with great chances. Great save from Kane’s header.

BRUNO MANGA

Offensively he was excellent, occupying an advanced position to help the attacks. But beaten oh so easily by Son down the Spurs left on numerous occasions.

SOL BAMBA

Occasionally caught on his heels by the pace of the hosts’ forward players. Not his best performance at the back.

JOE BENNETT

You could say he switched off for Dier’s goal, not reacting quick enough. But otherwise he was solid enough in the face of an onslaught.

VICTOR CAMARASA

Started with a couple of uncharacteristic mistakes, giving the ball away, but came back into the game as Cardiff’s most adept ball-player going forward.

JOE RALLS

Looked to give Cardiff bite in midfield and transitioned the play nicely when it broke the Bluebirds’ way. But a needlessly reckless tackle on Moura ensured Ralls saw red on the hour mark, leaving his teammates in trouble.

HARRY ARTER

Some crunching tackles on Harry Kane and company and effective use of the ball to get his side ticking. Not helped by Ralls’ dismissal which left Arter with a huge amount of ground to cover.

JUNIOR HOILETT

Came close to latching onto Murphy’s chip, which could have brought the equaliser. But seems to be lacking confidence in the final third, which is concerning.

CALLUM PATERSON

Deployed as the main striker and used his physicality to give Tottenham a few problems. Replaced by Danny Ward.

JOSH MURPHY

Pace, as always, to ask questions down both flanks. He looked Cardiff’s most consistent forward threat in the first half, but faded in the second half this time.

STARMAN: SEAN MORRISON

Not brilliant bringing the ball out, but made vital blocks to stop Spurs’ full-backs getting crosses in. One incredible stop from Moura early in the second half and struck the upright with a fine stooping header. Handled Harry Kane as well as you could expect.
