Fly-half Jones puts the boot into his former club

CARDIFF made it three wins in a row, but had to come from behind to beat Bedwas 16-10 in tough conditions at the Bridge Field on FRiday evening.

Rain had poured down on the pitch and the wind made kicking even more difficult but Joseph Scrivens, who was deployed at

full-back for Bedwas, opened the scoring with a well-taken penalty in the third minute.

The hosts looked fired up and soon added to their lead after a quick-tap penalty from Scrivens found its way to Adam Williams, who crossed over for the game’s opening try. Scrivens added the conversion.

Cardiff grew into the game but came up against a determined Bedwas backline, although they did manage to get points on the board through a Steffan Jones penalty midway through the first half.

The Cardiff fly-half, who joined from Bedwas in the summer, had another opportunity to close the deficit but misjudged his kick. However, on the stroke of half time, he made up for that miss with a close-range three-pointer.

The rain continued to make its presence felt during half time and it was Cardiff who adapted better to the conditions after the restart.

The Blue and Blacks remained patient and continued to pile on the pressure and were eventually rewarded with a penalty try with a yellow card handed to Cardiff’s Ellis Evans too.

The hosts almost hit back when a superb cross-field kick from Jacob Chilcott picked out Williams on the wing but the ball slipped out of his grasp with the try line at his mercy.

Cardiff then went down to 14 men when James Murphy was yellow-carded for an illegal tackle.
