BARRY Town United moved into the top three of the JD Welsh Premier League with a narrow 1-0 win over Carmarthen Town at Jenner Park.

Chris Hugh proved to be the match winner as he found the net shortly after the break to hand the hosts all three points.

Marcus Jones and Newport County loanee Momodou Touray went close to adding to the lead but Hugh’s goal was all that separated the two sides in the end.

Elsewhere, a five-goal classic at Maes Tegid saw Bala Town take the spoils courtesy of a late own goal by Joe Kenton.

Chris Venables handed Bala a half-time lead with a wellplaced header but Steve Leslie restored parity from the spot after Neil Mitchell was fouled in the box.

However, the Robins’ task of getting a positive result was dealt a huge blow when Craig Williams was shown a second yellow card. Bala were awarded a penalty minutes later, which was dispatched by Venables.

There was late drama as Luke Boundford thought he had salvaged a point for 10-man Newtown with a late header but Kenton bundled the ball beyond Dave Jones in the dying minutes to break Newtown hearts.

In other action, Cardiff Met left it late to secure a 2-0 victory at Llanelli Town.

With the game heading for a goalless draw Harry Owen popped up on 79 minutes to put the Archers ahead before Eliot Evans sealed the result in injury time.

The other game of the weekend resulted in a goalless draw between Aberystwyth Town and Caernarfon Town.
