BANK ON SOME EXTRA TIME OFF

- BRONTE HOWARD Reporter bronte.howard@walesonline.co.uk

THERE’S nothing better than taking some time off work to recharge and, as we approach the end of 2018, you might have started to think about booking next year’s holiday.

So how does boosting 16 days of annual leave into 34 days off sound? Well if you’re savvy – and thanks to the way bank holidays fall – that’s exactly what you can do. This is how. After New Year’s Day, the next bank holidays are Good Friday on April 19 and Easter Monday on April 22.

But if the Easter weekend isn’t enough and you want to really reboot, travel the world, or just spend more time with family, booking nine days off over the holiday period can score you 18 consecutive days of leave. That’s nearly three whole weeks. All you have to do is book off April 23, 24, 25, 26, 29, 30 and May 1, 2, and 3.

That means you’ll be off work from Thursday, April 18, to Tuesday, May 7 – with Good Friday (April 19), Easter Monday (April 22) and May’s first Bank Holiday on May 6 boosting that precious time off. Sounds good, right? And then at Christmas, why not extend the festivities and turn your three bank holidays – Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day – into 16 days away from the office?

To do that all you need to do is book off December 23, 24, 27, 30 and 31 next year and then January 2 and 3, 2020.

With more than two weeks off work you could book that dream winter holiday. Or just re-watch your favourite Christmas films over and over.

Along with Easter, May Day and Christmas there are two more bank holidays in 2019 – meaning two more long weekends to take advantage of. They’re on May 27 and August 26. And with 12 days of annual leave left – or more if you’re lucky – you could extend your long weekend and turn it into a holiday.

So take advantage of all the bank holidays, and you can take the chance to hit Wales’ tourist spots.

Here’s the full list of bank holidays in 2019: New Year’s Day, January 1 Good Friday, April 19 Easter Monday, April 22 May Day, May 6 Late May Bank Holiday, May 27 August Bank Holiday, August 26 Christmas Day, December 25 Boxing Day, December 2
