West End star is helping brighten up Christmas

-

A SINGING star is bringing some light to a Cardiff community.

Peter Karrie, a former Phantom of the Opera, is putting on a concert in Llandaff North this week to raise funds for the suburb’s Christmas lights.

The community has decided to replace the lights that illuminate Station Road and a fundraising drive for around £4,500 is now under way.

To help foot the bill, Peter Karrie – Live In Concert is on Thursday, November 15, at Llandaff North Community Centre. Doors open at 7pm. Tickets are £10 and available from the Railway Hotel and the Pineapple Inn.

There’s also a Christmas market on December 8 at the community centre.

The great switch-on will be on December 6, when Station Road will be closed to traffic for part of the evening.

Businesses will open to sell mince pies and mulled wine ahead of radio star Wynne Evans switching on the lights at 7.45pm. There will be fairground rides, music and fireworks.

There’s been a great response from local businesses so far, said Llandaff North Festival Committee chairman, Lewys Wootten, with £3,000 in the bag.

“We’ve been overwhelmed with the response and humbled by the generosity of residents and traders,” he added.

Tickets for Peter Karrie are available on 0737 9738911. People can also visit Llandaff North Festival Facebook page.
