Lock your cars, manhunt police warn

-

ARMED police searching for two men alleged to have attacked a police officer last night urged residents to keep their vehicles locked.

Dyfed-Powys Police said two men made off from police after their car was the subject of a “routine stop” between Synod Inn and Capel Cynon near Llandysul in Ceredigion.

An officer was cut and bruised when the men assaulted him and was treated in hospital.

Police were last night using a helicopter to try to find the men.

Chief Superintendent Pete Roderick said: “We have reason to believe these men will try to access a vehicle to leave the area, and are urging people to make sure they remove keys and keep all vehicles – both domestic and farm equipment – locked.

“We are appealing for anyone who sees any men acting suspiciously – perhaps trying vehicle doors, or crossing farmland – to call 999 immediately.

“It is unacceptable that one of our colleagues was assaulted during the course of his duty, and we are giving him the support he needs.”

The incident happened at around 1.15pm.

Police appealed on Twitter and Facebook that residents of the area secure their homes and vehicles.

A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “Police were called to the Synod Inn area at around 1.15pm, by a police officer requesting assistance after being assaulted while on duty.

“The PC had carried out a routine stop on a car travelling through the area, and was assaulted by the male occupants.

“He sustained cuts and bruises, and was taken to hospital as a precaution.

“The two men made off on foot, and a search ensued to locate them, involving the armed response unit and the NPAS helicopter.

“At present, their location is unknown.

“They are described as white men, one of stocky build wearing jeans and a black T-shirt, and the other wearing a blue and yellow or white boiler suit.

“Anyone with information about their whereabouts is urged to contact police.”

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue services were not involved in the incident.
