Nomads on the march at top

-

CONNAH’S Quay Nomads march on at the top of the JD Welsh Premier League’s Championship Conference after crushing Caernarfon Town 6-2 – a win inspired by Callum Morris’ first-half hat-trick.

Morris’ stole the show and his 32-minute treble had Andy Morrison’s men 3-1 to the good at the break with Nathan Craig responding for the Cofis from the penalty spot.

Cai Jones then pulled the visitors back to within one goal on 56 minutes but any hopes of a Caernarfon comeback were dashed by Adam Barton on 71 minutes.

Michael Wilde and Michael Bakare then added further Nomads goals within a minute of one another although they did have George Horan sent off.

Meanwhile, champions The New Saints were themselves in free-scoring form and kept up the pressure with a 5-0 triumph over Newtown at Park Hall.

First half goals from Ryan Brobbel and Jack Bodenham put the hosts in charge before Jamie Mullan put the result beyond doubt four minutes after the re-start.

Greg Draper then came off the bench to bag himself a brace.

In the Play-Off Conference, bottom club Llandudno gave themselves a much-needed boost in their battle to stay in the Welsh Premier with a 3-1 win over Carmarthen Town.

George Harry netted twice in the first half to set Llandundo on their way before Ben Clarke added a third on the hour mark. Sean Hanbury replied for the Old Gold.

Second from bottom Llanelli Town remain in trouble after going down 4-2 at home against Aberystwyth Town.

Aber were all but out of sight by the break thanks to three goals in the space of six minutes from Paolo Mendes, Wes Baynes and Geoff Kellaway. The latter then added a fourth on 62 minutes.
