CYMRU PREMIER

-

BALA Town moved back to within a point of top spot in the JD Cymru Premier after smashing promoted Penybont for six.

The Lakesiders were 5-1 up and out of sight by half time at the Kymco Stadium as they ran riot with Henry Jones, two Chris Venables penalties, Lassana Mendes and Louis Robles on the scoresheet.

Kieran Howard’s reply for scant consolation for Bont, who are now bottom of the table with just one point from their opening five matches and still without a win.

Stuart Jones added a sixth after the break for Bala in a win that saw them bounce back from defeat at home by Connah’s Quay Nomads last weekend.

Meanwhile there is nothing separating the top two after both had to settle for a point yesterday.

After Gavin Chesterfield and Kayne McLaggon picked up the manager and player of the month awards respectively for August, Barry Town United were held to a goalless draw at home by Caernarfon Town. It means they have 11 points from five games, as do Cardiff Met who also remain unbeaten, but their three match winning run is over after drawing 2-2 at Carmarthen Town. Met also had to come from behind twice with Jordan Knott and then Luke Bowen putting the Old Gold in front. Those efforts were cancelled out by Will Evans and Mael Davies though as the points were shared.

Meanwhile the wait is finally over for other promoted side Airbus UK Broughton who got their first points – at the fifth time of asking – by winning 2-1 at Aberystwyth Town.
