‘Everything ruined and no-one is taking responsibility’

NEIGHBOURS have been left with water flooding into their homes after torrential rain and a landslide on the hillside above.

Ann Morgan, 66, from Williamstown in Rhondda, said there was one landslide last week which damaged her home and another yesterday morning.

Water poured down the hillside into her flat, and her neighbour’s, leaving them walking around in water and unable to cook food or wash clothes.

She said: “My son was over my flat and phoned me to say there was a huge flood inside the flat. When I got home everything was ruined. The carpet, wooden floor, washing machine, cooker, literally everything is ruined. I haven’t been able to cook dinner in a week and have had to go out for food.

“The problem is no-one is taking responsibility and that is frustrating as we don’t know what to do. It’s likely to rain again in the next few days so we’re just worried more damage will be done.”

Ann is disabled, partially blind and lives alone. She says this is the fourth time she has been affected by a landslide in the past eight or nine years. She also has ulcers on her leg and now can’t walk around her flat as the flood is likely to cause an infection.

“I’m just sat in one room because I can’t walk around. Last week’s landslide was worse but it’s been a week and no one has sorted anything out,” she said.

“The damage is going to cost a few thousand pounds to replace. I’m at an old age I can’t afford to fix it. Now we’re just worried it will happen again. The fire service have been amazing and have given us advice, but no-one else seems to be helping.”

Ann’s neighbour, Denise Copeland, 52, also lives alone and has seen her flat flooded, with water above ankle height.

She said: “No-one has taken any responsibility, that’s the most annoying thing. The damage to my home hasn’t been as bad as my neighbour’s, but it’s just frustrating because now my flat is flooded with water.”
