MOHAMED Salah scored twice as Liverpool tightened their grip at the top of the Premier League with a 2-0 home win over bottom club Watford.

The Egypt forward broke the deadlock with a curled finish after 38 minutes.

Sadio Mane then saw his headed goal disallowed for offside following a VAR review.

Salah eventually flicked home a second during the final minute to seal victory and hand new Watford manager Nigel Pearson a defeat for his first match in charge.

The Reds moved 10 points clear of Leicester, who were held to a 1-1 home draw by relegation battlers Norwich, while the Hornets remain adrift at the foot of the table.

Leicester had been looking for a ninth consecutiv­e top-flight win.

Newcastle substitute Dwight Gayle fired a late chance wide.

In the late game, West Ham won the battle of the strugglers when Sebastian Haller got the winner in the 1-0 victory at Southampto­n.

Haller fired a low shot in off the post for his fifth goal of the season after 37 minutes.
