ANOTHER STAB ATTACK IN CITY
AMAN has been left seriously ill in hospital after a second stabbing in Cardiff within 24 hours. Police were called to Loudoun Square in Butetown at 2.23am on Saturday after receiving reports a man had been stabbed.
A 33-year-old man had received stab wounds and was taken to the University Hospital of Wales where he remains in a serious condition, a South Wales Police spokesman said.
The incident followed another stabbing at around 7.40am on Friday in Smeaton Street, Riverside, where a 38-year-old man was taken to hospital. He is described as being in a stable condition.
Ninian Park Road, Telford Street, Smeaton Street, part of Craddock Street and Littleton Street were taped off by police and a witness reported seeing four police cars with lights on “flying through the lights” at Leckwith towards Ninian Park Road.
Armed officers were also sent to the scene as a precaution.
The force has now issued a Section 60 notice which gives the authority to stop and search anyone in the Butetown, Grangetown and Riverside areas of Cardiff.
The notice is in force from 2pm on Saturday until 2pm on Sunday and allows officers to stop and search any pedestrian or anything carried by them for offensive weapons, as well as any vehicle, driver or passenger.
A force spokeswoman said: “Although these incidents are not being linked, South Wales Police has put in place the Section 60 with the aim of preventing serious violence, to find dangerous instruments, or to apprehend persons carrying weapons.”
