Carre set to rejoin the Blues
WALES star Rhys Carre is on the brink of rejoining Cardiff Blues in a major boost for the capital region.
The eight-times capped loosehead signed for Saracens last summer on a two-year deal taking him through to 2021.
But with the European champions being relegated from the Premiership to the Championship over salary cap breaches, the picture has changed.
A host of players are leaving the club, either permanently or on loan, and now the 22-year-old Carre looks set to join the exodus.
The Blues have been monitoring his situation closely for some time and head coach John Mulvihill has made it clear he would love to have him back on board.
I understand the deal is now close to being completed, with Carre set to return to the Arms Park on a permanent basis from next season.
That will be a real lift for the region as he is one of the rising stars in the Welsh game.
Having been a surprise selection in Warren Gatland’s World Cup squad, he went on to force his way into the match-day 23 for the quarter-final, semi-final and third-place play-off, coming off the bench in all three games out in Japan.
He has had further outings as a replacement against both Ireland and England in the recent Six Nations Championship.
Carre has had limited opportunities for Saracens this season, whereas he would be odds on to figure prominently for the Blues.
He would also be available for all Wales squad sessions and outof-window matches, enhancing his international prospects.
