Escape festival to go ahead

-

PEOPLE who bought tickets for the 2020 Escape music festival have been assured the event will go ahead by new organisers who have taken over the running of the event.

Last June it was announced that Escape Into The Park would be making a comeback at its home at Swansea’s Singleton Park. Many clamoured for tickets, costing between £70 and £100 for a day, as soon as they went on sale for the festival.

The event was billed as Escape 2520 due to the fact the city’s legendary nightclub of the same name would have been 25 years old this year.

But, since then, many have grown anxious over the lack of updates and no sign of the lineup being announced.

And that anxiety among ticket holders has been heightened in the light of the coronavirus pandemic, which has seen all mass gathering events banned, and the discovery on Companies House that an application to strike off Escape 2520 Limited was made on March 17 by Jonathan Wignall, who planned to run the event.

Mr Wignall has explained he is no longer behind the event, and decided to transfer the running of it to entrepreneur Paul Ragan back in February following a period of ill health.

Mr Wignall said: “I found a company that wanted to do it and signed it over to them. This event will go ahead in the future, when depends on Covid-19.

“What they said to me was it was felt Escape 2520 did not make sense so that name does not need to trade on.”

He said: “We are going to be honouring all tickets and if people can’t attend the new date we will be offering refunds as part of a goodwill measure to make sure people are not put out of pocket.

“It is a revised event and an announcement is imminent,” he added.
