SPURS TO SNAP UP RODON... THEN LOAN HIM BACK?

-

SWANSEA City defender Joe Rodon continues to be heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur. Numerous reports claim Spurs are about to table an official offer that could well include former Swans loanee Cameron Carter-Vickers.

The American international is a graduate of the Spurs academy and is highly thought of by Swans boss Steve Cooper.

It’s understood Cooper wants one centre back but will want two should Rodon leave, so a playertrade-plus-cash deal would go some way to assuaging Rodon’s departure.

Some reports claim a bid of around £13m will be made, with others suggesting it will be more like £12m. There are even suggestions Spurs would be willing to loan Rodon back to Swansea for the rest of this season.

The Swans have remained tightlipped on the matter, with no bid thought to have been received yet.

Rodon’s former Wales and Swansea team-mate Andy King has backed the 22-year-old to make it to the very top.

“I’m not surprised,” said King on Sky Sports. “When I was at Swansea, I was on loan at the time, and he was one which they looked at and earmarked as going to be a big player, not just for Swansea but for Wales as well.

“I think that he’s beginning to show over the last year or so. He’s had a really good year with Swansea last year and he’s got all the capabilities these days of what he needs to be a modern-day centrehalf.

“He’s good on the ground, good in the air and most importantly for some managers he is good in possession as well. He’s certainly got a massive future ahead of him, whether that’s at Swansea for another season or at Tottenham.

“From what I’ve seen I can definitely see him fitting in at a top team like Tottenham and I’m sure Swansea will be doing everything they can to keep hold of him in the next week.”

The domestic-only transfer window shuts at 5pm on Friday, October 16.
