SAS: RED NOTICE (15)

HERE TO STAY

-

HHHA SOLID cast comes up against an entertainingly preposterous script in an action-packed adaptation of a novel by former SAS man Andy McNab.

Special forces hotshot Tom Buckingham (Outlander’s Sam Heughan) is planning to propose to his doctor girlfriend Sophie (Hannah John-Kamen) on an ill-fated minibreak to Paris.

But work duties intervene when a gang of mercenaries, led by Grace Lewis (Ruby Rose), daughter of well-connected psychopath William (Tom Wilkinson), perform a daring mid-Channel Tunnel hijacking on their Eurostar train.

As Tom takes it upon himself to pick off her goons one at time, Andy Serkis’s double-dealing government fixer tries to wriggle out of a conspiracy that reaches all the way to Downing Street.

Some of the effects look a bit cheap but the fight scenes are competently staged and there’s a decent amount of tension as musclebound Tom squeezes through tight tunnels before launching crunching surprise attacks.

Heughan (who was once in the running for the Bond gig) looks the part but this one-man army is desperately short on cheesy quips.

The writers seem to think they’re crafting a gritty political thriller when all we really want is Die Hard In The Chunnel.

There’s no need to ditch your loungewear completely in the post-lockdown world.

We predict there’ll be a loosening of office dress codes, with luxe joggers in block colours or prints becoming a workwear go-to, and sweatshirts styled with formal trousers or swishy skirts.

INGREDIENTS

100g unsalted butter, melted, plus extra for greasing

350g self-raising flour

1 tsp bicarbonate of soda

1 tsp ground cinnamon

½ tsp salt

4 large ripe bananas, mashed

200g soft brown sugar

5 tbsp low-fat Greek yoghurt

3 medium eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

350g icing sugar, sifted

1-2 drops of pink food colour gel

Baked With Love mini blossoms, daisies and sugar flowers

METHOD

1. Preheat oven to gas 4, 180°C, fan 160°C. Lightly grease an 8-hole mini loaf tin or line a muffin tin with paper cases.

2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, bicarbonate of soda, cinnamon and salt. In a second bowl, beat together the bananas, butter and sugar with an electric whisk until light and fluffy; stir in the yoghurt. Add the eggs and vanilla extract; beat for 1 min until smooth. Pour in the dry ingredients and mix well. Spoon the mix into the tin or cases and bake for 15-20 mins or until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean. Leave to cool in the tin.

3. Sift the icing sugar into a bowl, add 2-3 tbsp water and the pink food colour gel and mix to a smooth, thick consistency (it should coat the back of a spoon and hold).

4. Put the cakes on a rack and spoon over the icing, allowing it to drizzle down the sides. Decorate with sugar flowers.
