JD CYMRU PREMIER

-

MICHAEL Wilde joined the exclusive 200-goal club in the JD Cymru Premier League as he tapped in at the far post to complete Connah’s Quay Nomads’ 2-0 win against Haverfordwest County.

The league leaders knew they could take nothing for granted against their visitors, given a week earlier they had turned over The

New Saints in a terrific home performance.

An opening goal from George Horan on the stroke of half-time had edged the Nomads in front, but they needed more than that.

Horan’s fourth goal in six games came from an Aron Williams corner. The defender was first to reach the ball at the near post with his right foot and send his side into the break with their tails up.

Wilde’s simple second-half strike, courtesy of a square ball from Craig Curran, carried the 37-year-old veteran forward onto 200 league goals – only the fourth player to reach that landmark.

The first 153 came in the colours of The New Saints, but his 47th for the Nomads allowed him to join Marc Lloyd Williams (319), Rhys Griffiths (271) and Lee Hunt (209) in the 200 Club since the league began in 1992.

The win allowed the Nomads to extend their lead over The New Saints to six points. There was no game this weekend for TNS, who now have a game in hand.

Cardiff Met were left to rue a host of missed chances in a basement battle as they were held to a goalless draw by Cefn Druids at their Cyncoed campus.

Christian Edwards’ side created a number of opportunities in search of their first win since the restart, but failed to score.

It was a costly failure from the students as they dropped to 10th after Aberystwyth Town claimed three points against Newtown. Their 1-0 home win was thanks to a Harry Franklin goal in the 77th minute.

The Newtown cause wasn’t helped by Tyrone Ofori’s 53rd-minute sending off for a second yellow card. They also missed a penalty in the 82nd minute when Connor Roberts saved from Alex Fletcher.

Two goals in the space of five minutes near the end of the first-half were enough to earn Flint Town United their fifth win of the season as they triumphed 2-1 at Penybont. Sam Hart got the first for the visitors in the 36th minute and then Callum Bratley added a second in the 41st.

Penybont grabbed a consolation goal from Lewis Clutton in the 90th minute, but they couldn’t close the gap.
