SOME schools across Wales will still be used as polling stations during the Senedd elections.

We contacted all of Wales’ councils to ask if they were planning to avoid using schools this year because of the disruption schools have already faced. Here are the responses so far: Blaenau Gwent: The nursery-only section in seven schools will be used. A spokesperson said: “Schools are only used where there is no suitable alternative premises.”

Bridgend: Polling stations are being held at three schools, Maes y Haul Primary School, Cwmfelin School and Tremains Primary School.

Caerphilly: A spokesperson from Caerphilly Council said, “We have reduced the amount of school polling stations from 17 to 6 and sought alternative locations where possible.”

Carmarthenshire: Ysgol Y Bedol and Llangunnor Primary School in Carmarthen are both closed and having an inset day and Ysgol y Felin in Llanelli is also closed.

Penybigyn nursery is also being used, but the school will remain open.

Myrddin Primary School is being used but is administered by Pembrokeshire council .

Cardiff: Cardiff council says individual headteachers can make the decision but they understand Howardian Primary School, Springwood Primary School, Tredegarville Primary School, Bryn Hafod Primary School, Mount Stuart Primary School, Ninian Park Primary School and Willowbrook Primary School will all be closed.

Ceredigion: Four schools will be used for the election. A spokesperson said: “Schools are only being used where there are no appropriate alternatives.

The situation of Polling Stations will be published on 9 April 2021 on the council’s website.”

Conwy: Schools will be used and those affected will be published at a later date.

Monmouthshire: Schools being used for the election are Durand Junior School; Ysgol Y Ffin and Castle Park Primary School. A spokesperson said: “They fall within the Newport East constituency which Newport City Council administer for this election so they are making the arrangements for those schools.”

Rhondda: Schools are being used with a list to be published on April 9.

Torfaen: A spokesperson said as many as possible have been relocated but four schools are being used. Two will be fully closed, one partially and one not at all.
