95 more positive cases recorded

TWO more people in Wales have died with coronaviru­s and 95 new positive cases have been identified.

The latest data published by Public Health Wales yesterday recorded 95 new positive cases to bring the total number since the outbreak began to 209,627.

The overall number of people to have died in the country within a month of testing positive for the virus has risen to 5,511.

The infection rate is 31.3 per 100,000 people, based on the seven days up to March 29 a drop from 35 on Thursday. No data was published by Public Health Wales on Good Friday, April 2.

All 22 local authoritie­s have seven-day case rates below 100 per 100,000. Meanwhile, the percentage of tests coming back with positive results is 2.4%, well below the key benchmark of 5%. The latest figures also show 1,472,643 people have received the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine and 463,445 have had both doses.

Cardiff was the area with the highest number of new cases confirmed in the latest 24-hour period with 13, followed by Gwynedd with 11 and Swansea with 10.

Newport, Carmarthen­shire and Denbighshi­re reported three each and Monmouthsh­ire, Torfaen, Ceredigion and Neath Port Talbot reported two each. The Vale of Glamorgan and Conwy had one each while Blaenau Gwent, Anglesey and Bridgend recorded no new cases.
