No Covid deaths, but 130 new cases

THERE were no new coronaviru­s deaths reported in Wales yesterday – but there were more than 100 new cases.

New data published by Public Health Wales reports a further 130 new coronaviru­s cases in Wales yesterday, meaning Wales has now seen a total of 210,344 cases since the pandemic began.

The total number of lab-confirmed coronaviru­s deaths in Wales remains at 5,528.

The infection rate across Wales has also fallen and now stands at 18.7 cases per 100,000 people for the seven days leading up to April 5, a drop from 20.4 on Friday.

All of Wales’ local authoritie­s are now reporting fewer than 40 cases per 100,000 people for the seven days up to April 5.

Meanwhile, the percentage of tests coming back with positive results is now 2.2%, way below the key benchmark of 5%.

The latest figures also show that 1,556,316 people have received the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine and 509,478 people have had both doses. Wales is on track to have given half a million people both doses of the vaccine by the weekend.

Cardiff reported the most cases on Friday with 25, followed by Swansea with 19. Rhondda Cynon Taf saw 14 cases. No other areas saw double figures cases. Newport saw nine and Powys had eight. Anglesey, Gwynedd and Neath Port Talbot had seven new cases. Wrexham had five with Carmarthen­shire seeing four. Pembrokesh­ire, Bridgend and Blaenau Gwent had three. Caerphilly, Ceredigion and the Vale of Glamorgan had two, with Torfaen, Conwy, Denbighshi­re and Merthyr seeing just motives behind the decision to bring Monmouthsh­ire had no cases.

■ Denbighshi­re: 16.7 (up from 15.7)

■ Flintshire: 16.7 (down from 17.9)

■ Torfaen: 16 (up from 14.9)
