Gardening and More team get set for a new season

-

AFTER a long and difficult winter, the time has come to welcome in the spring and the new beginnings this season has to offer.

And as we look forward to the new season, we can also look forward also to a new series of Garddio a Mwy (Gardening and More) which begins on S4C on Monday, April 19, at 8.25pm.

Presenting, once again, from their glorious garden in Pont-yTwr, Dyffryn, Clwyd, are Sioned and Iwan Edwards – while Meinir Gwilym will be bringing us a wheelbarrow full of tips and ideas from her lovely garden in Pant-yWennol, Trefor.

But, as the title of the series suggests, this isn’t just a show about gardening – there are lots of fascinating items about wildlife, the environment and how to enjoy life in the garden. And according to Meinir this is exactly why the series, which returns for the sixth time, is so popular.

“I think Garddio a Mwy is popular with the viewers because it is wide-reaching in its attitude and content. The viewers help us shape the content by sending us their photos and questions on our social media platforms.

“Also, Sioned and Iwan are a couple who have their feet firmly on the ground, and their hands in the earth, of course! Sioned specialises in growing and arranging flowers and this, along with Iwan’s expertise in growing vegetables and wildlife and their easy-going attitude, make this programme a pleasure to watch.

“Both new and experienced gardeners learn something every day and every year. We share any mistakes or blunders with our viewers – no garden is perfect, and we can learn from each others’ mistakes, I hope.”

So, what can we expect from the new series?

“The new series is packed!”, said Meinir. “We are looking forward to discovering different ways of growing vegetables; visiting interesting and unusual gardens; having tips from gardeners all over Wales; re-using everyday items to create interesting gardens and to do the jobs which need doing in our gardens from week to week - with our viewers.”

There will also be a competition to win the title of ‘Garddio a Mwy’s Best Garden’ – there will be more details to follow in the new series and also on the show’s social media sites.

In the first episode Sioned will be looking back at February’s snowdrops and the advantages of the incredibly useful tree amelanchier and Iwan will be growing his own healthy food.

There will be a special guest, the adventurer and TV presenter Steve Backshall who presents an item with Meinir on how to create pots of flowers for the garden. The challenge was set as part of Steve’s efforts to learn Welsh on the recent Iaith ar Daith series.
