TV PICKS OF THE WEEK
POSE
Tonight, BBC2, regions vary
We have good news and bad news. The good is that Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Steven Canals’ drama set within New York’s AfricanAmerican and Latino underground drag ball scene during the 1980s and 1990s is back. The bad is that it’s the third and final run.
It’s 1994, and Blanca is now working as a nurse aide while dating Christopher, one of the hospital’s doctors. The city’s new mayor, Rudy Giuliani, is cracking down on sex work, which leaves Elektra in a difficult position, and Angel’s modelling career has stalled.
The House of Evangelista, meanwhile, is no more – until its former members are drawn back together by OJ Simpson’s slow-speed chase and the death of Cubby following a battle with Aids.
GUY MARTIN: THE WORLD’S FASTEST ELECTRIC CAR?
Tomorrow, Channel 4, 9pm
Guy Martin is on a mission to set another world record – this time it’s for the fastest road-legal battery vehicle on a quarter-mile drag strip. His chosen car is a lightweight, 50-year-old Volkswagen Beetle fitted with state-of-the-art Tesla technology.
THE SECRET LIFE
OF THE ZOO
Tuesday, Channel 4, 8pm
Cameras return to Chester Zoo to observe the behaviour of the animal inhabitants and their relationships with their keepers. In the first episode, we’re introduced to Margery and Betong, the Malayan tapiers. The semi-aquatic mammals are among the zoo’s odder-looking residents, can weigh in at 500kgs each and put away an impressive 40kg of food each day. However, there are suspicions that Margery is now eating for two.
CRAIG AND BRUNO’S GREAT BRITISH ROAD TRIPS
Wednesday, ITV, 8pm
In the penultimate episode of this entertaining travel series, Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli are in the Lake District, travelling the scenic westward circuit from Kendal to
Keswick. They take an icy dip in Coniston Water and face their most testing drive to date as they tackle the tyre-shredding Wrynose pass and England’s steepest road, Hardknott pass, before heading north to Cockermouth. It is there that Craig decides that Bruno should try his hand at Cumbrian Wrestling, which turns out to be one of the region’s oldest sports. Turning south towards Scafell Pike, the duo take on the Via Ferrata infinity bridge that has a 1,000-foot drop.
SHOP WELL FOR LESS?
Thursday, BBC1, 8pm
New presenters Gavin & Stacey star
Joanna Page and Melanie Sykes travel to Kent, to help a family kickstart their savings pot so they can finish their hall refurbishment.
The Katnorias have started the job, but it’s now on hold as finding the money to complete it isn’t easy, especially when their daughters love their brands and the family’s favourite saying is “treat yourself”.
DECEIT
Friday, Channel 4, 9pm
Niamh Algar and Harry Treadaway are among the cast of this four-part drama based on real events.
Set in 1992, shortly after the murder of Rachel Nickell on Wimbledon Common in London in front of her two-year-old son, it begins as the Metropolitan Police face public and media pressure to catch the culprit. Detective Inspector Keith Pedder (Treadaway) joins forces with criminal profiler Paul Britton (Eddie Marsan) to devise an undercover operation fronted by ambitious officer ‘Sadie Byrne’ (Algar).
