Josef’s faux pas is costly for Druids

- JD CYMRU PREMIER

A third-minute own goal from Josef Faux gave reigning JD Cymru Premier champions Connah’s Quay Nomads the perfect start to a season in which they are chasing a hat-trick of titles.

A long throw from Kris Owens was headed goalwards by

Jordan Davies and the ball took a deflection off the Cefn Druids player and into his own net.

A second goal arrived in the 58th minute from veteran defender George Horan made it 2-0 and a comfortable start for the Nomads at The Rock.

It could have been more, but twice the referee ruled out goals after the Nomads had put the ball in the back of the net.

Davies lost one in the 17th minute after heading home an Aron Williams cross, the referee ruling the ball had gone out of play before the cross.

Then Horan had a headed goal from another Owens throw-in chalked off after referee Rob Jenkins had initially indicated a goal.

This time Horan was deemed to be offside despite two Cefn Druids players standing on the line at the time. Horan eventually headed home the second and the Nomads were off to a winning start.

In the other games, Matt

Jones was the home hero as Aberystwyth Town beat Barry Town United 2-1.

The visitors took the lead after 23 minutes with a goal from the 20-year-old summer signing Marcus Day, who joined from Bristol Manor Farm, and Sam Phillips level just before the break.

With time running out, Jones struck in the 90th minute to give his side the perfect start to the new season.

Penybont picked up an excellent point at Bala Town, where it ended 2-2.

Sam Snaith gave the visitors the lead before Will Evans equalised. Former Wales midfielder Dave Edwards gave Bala the lead before Kane Owen equalised from the penalty spot.

There was still time for Bala striker Chris Venables to be sent off before the end.

Michael Wilde started paying back the faith put in him by Flint Town United as he scored two goals in his new side’s stunning 5-1 win at Cardiff Met.

The former Connah’s Quay Nomads and New Saints striker proved he has still got an eye for a goal as he steered the north Walians to a big win.

Jack Kenny, Callum Bratley and Connor Harwood were also on target before Thomas Owen Price‘s late consolation.
