VENABLES HITS FIVE AS BALA GO ON THE RAMPAGE

-

BALA Town hammered out a warning they mean business in the JD Welsh Cup as they beat Brymbo 17-1 as they cruised through to the third round. Top striker Chris Venables scored five goals and Bradley Bauress grabbed a hat-trick as the JD Cymru Premier side revealed a merciless streak against a team two leagues below them from the Ardal Northern.

To their credit, Brymbo hit back after conceding an eighth minute penalty, which Venables converted, and levelled matters through Mike Thomspon in the 13th minute.

That proved to be rather unlucky for them as the backlash meant the home side were 8-1 ahead by the break.

The goal fest continued in the second half, with former Welsh international Dave Edwards getting in on the act with goal No 15.

It all got a bit too much for the Brymbo social media officer who admitted in the final 10 minutes he couldn’t keep up with all the goals and quite at 14.

Another Premier league team, Aberystwyth Town, also went on the rampage in their home clash with Aber Valey as they won 9-0.

Harry Franklin and Owain Jones both helped themselves to hat-tricks.

Penybont followed suit against JD South side Undy Athletic.

They scored a magnificent seven goals without reply with Nathan Wood and Sam Snaith both scoring twice.

Haverfordwest County knocked in half-a-dozen goals to beat Brecon Corries 6-0, Ben Fawcett getting a brace, while cup holder The New Saints beat Llanwrst by the same margin at Park Hall. Louis Robles and Jake Canavan both scored twice for TNS.

The New Saints loanee Beau Cornish helped Airbus UK Broughton progress 2-1 at Llandudno FC as he opened the scoring before Jake Eyre got the second before the visitors rode their luck at the death to emerge triumphant.

Llandudno Albion also went down to defeat, beaten 5-3 at home by JD North league leaders Guilsfield.

There was a bumper crowd for Denbigh Town’s first home game in 18 months, but no glory for the home side as they were beaten 4-0 by Caernarfon Town.

Cai Jones, Iwan Cartwright and Rob Hughes with two were the scorers for the top-flight visitors.

Trefelin BGC comfortably beat Briton Ferry Llansawel 3-0 at Old Road thanks to a hat-trick from Joe Clarke.

Llantwit Major had goals from Rob Jones and Tom Walters in the last three minutes of their home clash with Pencoed Athletic to thank for their 3-0 win.

Reigning JD Cymru Premier champions Connah’s Quay Nomads made it safely through to round three thanks to a 5-0 home victory over Rhyl 1879 that included a brace from the ageless George Horan.

Flint Town United also continued their excellent start to the season with a 5-0 home win over Penrhyndeudraeth that included two more goals from ace marksman Michael Wilde.

Holyhead Hotspur went down fighting at JD Cymru Premier league side Cefn Druids before they were finally beaten 4-2, while Monmouth Town upset Llanelli Town 3-0.

Josh-Leigh Maksimovic was the home hero with two second half goals in quick succession before Paolo Marenghi converted a penalty to complete the upset.

Ruthin Town squeezed past Bodedern Athletic 5-4 and Saltney Town enjoyed a notable 5-3 triumph at Llanrhaeadr.
