Seasiders stun Fulham in first win

-

BLACKPOOL stunned early Championship leaders Fulham to register their first win of the season.

Former Fulham youngster Josh Bowler gave Blackpool a well-earned lead early in the second half as he drove into the visitors’ box and finished well.

The Cottagers, who drop to second behind West Bromwich Albion following their draw with Millwall, failed to find the rhythm which had seen them win all of their past five matches in league and cup.

The visitors had a number of chances towards the end as Denis Odoi and Harrison Reed went close, while Bowler had a chance to make the game safe at the other end.

Blackpool’s first league win since victory in the League One play-off final moves them up to 19th in the table.

West Bromwich Albion went top of the Championship table despite being held to a 1-1 draw at home by Millwall.

Fulham’s defeat at Blackpool sent the still-unbeaten Baggies a point clear at the top.

Four minutes into the second half Albion took the lead with Kyle Bartley’s looping header from Conor Townsend’s cross.

But Millwall took just six minutes to level when home keeper Sam Johnstone did not come to claim Jed Wallace’s cross and Danny Ballard headed home at the far post.

Matty Pearson’s own goal gifted all three points as Stoke City came from behind to beat Huddersfield Town and climb to third in the Championship table.

A stoppage time equaliser from Stefan Johansen earned Queens Park

Rangers a draw at Reading to maintain their unbeaten start to the Championship season.

A hat-trick from John Swift had looked to give Reading an important victory over the high-flying R’s after the home side initially went behind early through a Michael Morrison own goal.

But trailing 3-1, Andre Gray pulled one back before Johansen found the equaliser in the first minute of added time to snatch victory away from the Royals.

Coventry City kept up their 100% winning start at home with victory over Middlesbrough at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Viktor Gyokeres grabbed his third of the season in the 71st minute as he rounded goalkeeper Joe Lumley to put them in front. Martyn Waghorn sealed the points in injury time.
