TV PICKS OF THE WEEK
THE OLIVIER AWARDS 2022
Tonight, ITV, 10.15pm
The annual ceremony is back and because it was cancelled last year, shows running from February 2020 to February 2022 are eligible.
Several winners have already been announced – theatre school founder Sylvia Young and Lisa Burger, executive director and joint chief executive of the National Theatre, are among those receiving special recognition trophies.
The rest, however, are a mystery, but revivals of Anything Goes and Cabaret are among the frontrunners.
Jason Manford hosts from the Royal Albert Hall in London.
TRAVEL MAN: 48 HOURS IN SPLIT
Tomorrow, Channel 4, 8.30pm
The Croatian city of Split is not one on the front page of many holiday companies’ websites but it is a wonderful destination. Whether or not any potential visitors will fancy emulating the hurried itinerary of host Joe Lycett and this week’s guest Aisling Bea will be a matter of taste, as the pair explore the city’s museum of stuffed frogs and go on a dog-walk organised by a local animal shelter.
THE GREAT CELEBRITY BAKE OFF FOR STAND UP TO CANCER
Tuesday, Channel 4, 8pm
There’s a great evening of entertainment ahead thanks to a new run of Derry Girls and the debut of Hullraisers.
But it all begins with the penultimate episode of the culinary competition. Olympian Mo Farah, Strictly judge Motsi Mabuse, actress Katherine Kelly and actor-comedian Ben Miller tackle Italian biscuits and a showstopper involving a favourite memory rendered in cake.
Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas host, while judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood offer their views.
KATE & KOJI
Wednesday, ITV, 9pm
While fans of Brenda Blethyn are used to seeing the awardwinning actress in her trademark hat and coat as crime-cracking detective Vera, the actress has said that her character in this comedy is miles apart from detective DCI Stanhope.
“It’s fun to be abrasive now and again,” she says.
We get to see that spiky side of grouchy and uptight cafe owner Kate again in a double bill tonight, as she becomes highly suspicious when her lifelong enemy wants to make peace. Meanwhile, Koji has another problem as he develops a curious symptom.
Then, in the series finale, Medium is set to leave for a job abroad.
TASKMASTER
Thursday, Channel 4, 9pm
One of Channel 4’s biggest scores since acquiring Bake Off was
snagging this raucous slice of daftness from Dave. Taskmaster is back for a new series (its 13th!) with a fresh line-up, comprising stand-up comedians Ardal O’Hanlon, Bridget Christie, Chris Ramsey, Judi Love and Sophie Duker.
For anyone unfamiliar with the show, Taskmaster Greg Davies presides over ludicrous challenges set by “sidekick” (actually the show’s creator and exec-producer) Alex Horne.
PILGRIMAGE: THE ROAD TO THE SCOTTISH ISLES
Friday, BBC2, 9pm
Celebrities Laurence LlewelynBowen, Monty Panesar, Louisa Clein, Nick Hewer, Scarlett Moffatt, Shazia Mirza and Will Bayley continue their pilgrimage, travelling by road and sea over 1,600km while learning about St Columba, a key figure in early British Christianity.
The celebs all hold different faiths and beliefs and all have something to teach and learn from one another.
BRITAIN’S GOT TALENT
Saturday, ITV, 8pm
The talent search is back for a new series, with judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams giving their verdicts on the acts, while Ant and Dec host.
Gracing the London Palladium Theatre stage in tonight’s opening episode are a dog act like no other, harmonious choirs, and a man who managed to leave the judges spooked like never before.
