Mullin hoping it’s finally pitch perfect at Wembley

WREXHAM striker Paul Mullin is hoping to make it onto the Wembley pitch three years after his only other visit saw him watch the whole match from the bench.

Mullin was an unused substitute as Tranmere won 1-0 in the League Two play-off final to clinch promotion, so the 27-year-old is hoping for a starting role when the Dragons take on Bromley in the FA Trophy final today (4.15pm)

“That was really frustrating,” said Mullin about his previous trip.

“But I don’t care about the past, it has gone and it doesn’t really affect me too much.

“Now I have got the opportunity to change it with a club that I am really looking forward to doing it with.

“Hopefully the gaffer selects me and it is my time to go and play at Wembley.”

Liverpool-fan Mullin celebrated the Anfield outfit winning the FA Cup last weekend at Wembley with a penalty shoot-out win against Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Targeting success with Phil Parkinson’s side on the big stage, the striker - Wrexham’s top scorer with 30 goals in all competition and National League Golden Boot winner - would love to find the back of the net under the arch.

“It would be a great feeling,” added Mullin.

“Wembley is not Anfield – scoring at Anfield would be a totally different feeling for me – but it is extra special playing at Wembley.

“Liverpool won there last weekend and I get the chance to hopefully copy them.

“It I was to score then it would be fantastic because it would be something I would remember for the rest of my life, and winning the Trophy would mean so much to me.”

Wrexham still have the National League play-offs on their agenda and finisahed their league campaign with a disappointing 3-0 defeat at Dagenham & Redbridge last weekend.

But midfielder Jordan Davies feels the Dragons can get over losing out on the title to Stockport.

“Looking back to last Sunday we weren’t at the races and it wasn’t our day,” he said.

“We’ve got no excuses for that but ultimately it didn’t matter because Stockport won and it was out of our hands either way.

“But we’re looking forward to bouncing back and hopefully we can win a trophy.”

“There’s no bigger stage than Wembley to bounce back on,” Davies told BBC Sport Wales.

Dragons manager Phil Parkinson revealed that his players were “flat” after last weekend’s defeat. The Reds boss said that the players are desperate to bounce back ahead of the play offs.

Parkinson said: “It’s been a decent week. As you can imagine everyone was flat after last weekend because we went into the game hoping it would be a day to remember.

“That’s football and you have to pick yourself up. I’m pleased with how things have gone this week, we’ve got one more session on our pitch and then we’ll travel down to London.

“I’m pleased we’ve got this game before the play offs. It’s a great occasion for everyone to be a part of and we can shake off the disappointment of not winning the league with this game.”
