MINI HEATWAVE ON THE WAY FOR WALES

- ROB HARRIES Reporter robert.harries@walesonline.co.uk

WALES could be in store for a few days of glorious sunshine that could culminate in the hottest day of the year by the end of the week. So far we’ve seen a mixed bag of weather across the country in 2022, with sunny periods in April and May combined with patches of heavy and continuous rain which has even brought about thunderstorm and flash flood warnings.

Even the past week has been a bit unpredictable, with warm weather being interspersed with showers and very strong winds.

However, over the next few days things will start to become a bit more summery. According to BBC Weather, Cardiff will see consistent temperatures of between 18 and 21°C between today and Wednesday, with limited spots of rain. By Friday, temperatures are expected to reach 25°C, which would make it the hottest day of the year in Wales so far.

In fact, on Friday we can expect to bathe in sunshine all day, with warm and sunny weather lasting from around 9am right through to 8pm.

The warm and dry weather is expected throughout next week across most of Wales, with Swansea also likely to see temperatures of 25°C on Friday.

The Met Office is also predicting sunny weather in Wales for most of the coming week, with a spokesperson saying that today: “Winds will ease into Sunday with a few showers continuing, though there will be plenty of sunny spells also. Maximum temperature 19°C.”

Then, as for tomorrow and into the middle of next week: “There will be a few showers lingering to begin the new week though it will soon turn largely dry with variable cloud and sunny spells. Feeling pleasant in any sunshine.”

Despite Friday promising to be a gloriously sunny day, it will have to go some to top some of the temperatures we saw in Wales last summer, when in July Cardiff saw temperatures of nearly 31°C.

The highest ever temperature in Wales was a sweltering 35.2°C, recorded in Flintshire in August 1990.
