IT’S TIME TO MAKE A DECISION – BULUT

Season finishes with Cardiff boss still waiting for owner Tan to show his hand

CARDIFF City boss Erol Bulut has urged owner Vincent Tan to make decisions quickly, insisting the Bluebirds are already losing time as his future remains unclear.

Bulut once again spoke of positive talks between himself and chairman Mehmet Dalman and said the ball is now in Tan’s court.

While the Cardiff owner has sanctioned contract talks with the Turkish manager, Bulut is keen to nail down details on the length of any new deal and get assurances over staff and recruitment.

A 5-2 final day Championship drubbing at the hands of relegated Rotherham was not an ideal bargaining chip for Bulut as he awaits for positive news from Tan. As for the manager himself, he intends to return to his family next week.

Bulut said: “In general, it was a successful season. This is important, my guys did a good job this season.

“My future? We had positive talks with our chairman so I think the next step will be from the club’s side. They have to talk to our owner, Vincent Tan, to go to the next step.

“Of course, we do not have so much time.

“I have to make decisions also for myself, for my future, and also the club’s. It’s best for everyone if we can make quicker decisions rather than wait because we are losing time in many things.”

Asked if the contract situation would now take priority with fixtures finished, Bulut replied: “No. My priority is my family. I haven’t seen them for a long time – my kids, my wife. They miss me and next week I will be with them and I will enjoy being with them.”

As for the nature of the awful defeat, Bulut admitted his players were perhaps not as focused as usual, but he was also critical of the officials.

“Sometimes it is not easy in the last game.

“Rotherham are relegated and I think a little bit like the referee wanted to give them a present. So he helped them a little bit. It was a great atmosphere from the fans. The referee gave two wrong decisions, in my opinion. It’s not a penalty.”

Swansea’s mediocre Championship season also ended on a low note as they were beaten 1-0 at home by Millwall, skipper Matt Grimes missing a penalty and striker Jerry Yates being red carded along with Japhet Tanganga after the pair traded blows.

The Swans finished 14th, two points below Millwall, and boss Luke Williams admits he has a busy summer ahead following his January appointment.

Williams said: “It’s a disappointing way to end, but we have to draw the line under this season and look forward to the next one.

“If anyone felt there wasn’t work to do, they must be crazy. This is another example of why we need to improve, this was a winnable game.

“We’ve come a long way from the beginning of my reign here.

“We take the ball off the opposition pretty well and we’re able to build up well with the ball and get to the final third but we need to find more solutions to scoring goals.”
