Although Schmuck had never met Jérôme and Emmanuelle de Noirmont (page 071) before he photographed them amid a Sheila Hicks installation in the garden of the Musée Carnavalet in Paris, his rapport with the French gallerists-turned-art producers was evident. ‘When I photograph people, I try to be as unobtrusive as possible,’ he explains of the intimate, documentary quality of his work. He is currently working on a new series about sky and space.
