TURNING THE TABLES
with a vinyl revival in full flow, we need the players back, too. anything taking up space in our interiors is fair game for the design crowd, who are now grappling once again with the gramophone. some, such as shinola (seen here) and bddw, have simply dressed up the turntable in 21st century materials, while other models, such as wheel by Dutch brand miniot and Fuseproject’s love, have turned the turntable on its head, minimising its presence, embedding the styli and, in the case of love, doing all the spinning instead of the record. meanwhile, gadget-cleaning specialist am has come full circle. originally founded in 1971 to produce the means to clean record players and vinyl, it recently expanded into screen cleaning, only now to have returned to its roots.
