Rib ticklers
This season’s cable-knit jumpers come with a twist
For autumn, designers are adding a twist to traditional cable-knit jumpers. at Burberry, a sweater design in collaged rib and chunky cable-knit appears to wrap around the body, its wide funnel-neck and cut-out cuff details nodding to the hollowed compositions of henry Moore. Meanwhile, at louis Vuitton, kim Jones created a mixed-wool cable knit sweater that comprises two connected jumpers, one of which ties around the waist. Jones also looked to the art world for inspiration, appropriating the insouciant styles of new York-based creatives such as Jean-michel Basquiat and keith haring.
spurred on by maritime themes, Boss riffed on the patterns of fisherman jumpers, offering up an olive green sweater and scarf in a luxurious cashmere wool blend. upping its technical prowess, hermès’ take on the cable-knit sweater marks a new technique for the French luxury house. Crafted from sculpted merino wool, the jumper’s fabric is straightened before being laser-shaved into twisting stitch details. burberry.com; louisvuitton.com; hugoboss.com; hermes.com
