SHELF LIFE Library of Distilled Spirits, New York
Aiming to satisfy patrons’ thirst for knowledge as well as beverages, the new Library of Distilled Spirits in Union Square features its own encyclopedia, a unique guide to the 1,000 spirits – including rare Japanese whiskies and Chartreuse liqueur from the 1850s – that it stocks on its illuminated ‘library’ shelves. Designed by New York-based firm Dutch East and featuring vintage captain’s chairs and wooden tables, the bar was established in partnership with Dushan Zaric, co-founder of award-winning West Village speakeasy Employees Only. As well as 150 classic cocktails, it serves a seasonal drinks menu and house specials including Pisco sours, Port Royals and the more unusual Western Addition, a mix of tequila, rhubarb and sparkling sake.
