Food festival rounds out its line-up with Great British Menu winner
ONE of Cornwall’s most popular foodie events has rounded out its impressive line-up ahead of its return next month.
Ben Palmer, fresh from winning the starter course at the 2024 Great British Menu, is among the many top chefs who will be cooking up a storm at the Porthleven Food Festival.
All-conquering Ben, from the Sardine Factory restaurant in Looe, will be joined by his fellow South West Great British Menu contestants Andi Tuck and Elly Wentworth during the threeday celebration of food and drink.
Andi, a previous South West heat winner on the popular BBC cookery programme for professionals, is head chef at of Harbour House in Flushing, while Elly is the head chef at The Angel in Dartmouth.
Porthleven Food Festival’s chef patron Jude Kereama said: “The 2024 festival line-up is set to be our best yet. We’re thrilled to bring such a talented mix of Michelin star and leading chefs from across the country, to demo for us all here in Porthleven.
“It’s going to be a brilliant weekend of celebrations and there is heaps in store from live music, to masterclasses, feast nights and family-friendly entertainment plus lots more. We can’t wait to welcome you all back.”
Cornwall’s own Jack Stein has also been added to the bill as has three Michelin-starred chef Adam Handling, owner of the Adam Handling Restaurant Group, which includes the Ugly Butterfly in Carbis Bay. Tom Brown, owner of Cornerstone restaurant in Hackney Wick and the new Pearly Queen, an oyster bar and restaurant in Shoreditch, will be in town, as will Paul Foster, of Salt restaurant.
The free foodie event, a must in the culinary calendar, runs from April 26-28.
It attracts in the region of 35,000 people who tuck into celebrations in the whole-town takeover, with the heart of the activity held around the harbourside.
Known for bringing together toplevel culinary talent, the festival celebrates Cornwall’s leading food and drink producers and stimulates the local economy, while also raising awareness of key issues relating to the environment, food culture and sustainable food production.
New for this year, the festival is offering Ultimate Gourmet Weekend Tickets – at £85 per person – which includes guaranteed seating in the Chef’s Theatre all weekend, access to the Friday and Saturday night evening sessions with Beans on Toast and the UK Fleetwood Mac, plus premium parking in the centre of Porthleven. It also includes a ticket to the exciting new comedy roast, which features a two-course lunch, prepared by chef Rupert Cooper, of the Philleigh Way Cookery School, and comedy and a quiz from Johnny Cowling.
