Ella will brave the shave for charity

-

A brave Livingston schoolgirl is donating her hair to charity this weekend.

Ella Gordon, nine, will have her long locks cut at the Hair Zone in the Livingston Designer Outlet this Sunday.

And the Bankton Primary School pupil, from Dedridge, will donate around nine inches of hair to the Little Princess Trust, so that children suffering from the side-effects of chemotherapy can have wigs made for them.

Having already raised over £300, kind Ella also plans to hand over any money she gets to the charity.

Speaking ahead of the hair cut, Ella said: “I first thought up the idea about two months ago and only started raising money two weeks ago.

“I was on the internet one day and had been watching people donating their hair to charity and it really inspired me.

“So far I’ve raised £319.50, meaning I’m 72 per cent of the way to achieving my target of £438.”

Ella insists she’s not nervous about having so much hair cut from her head because it’s for such a good cause.

And she said that the support of her family, friends and teacher has been a huge help.

She continued: “I enjoy helping charities and I always help out when the school are doing fundraisers but this is the first one I’ve ever done myself.

“My teacher has sponsored me and a lot of my friends have been asking me about it. I’ve told them they can get their hair cut too or they can just donate.”

Her dad Kevin, said: “I’m very proud of Ella for doing this pretty much all by herself.

“She brought it to my attention a few weeks ago and to be fair to her she has had the drive to see it through.”
