Blazer proves to be big hit
750 run Blackridge event
Over 750 obstacle course enthusiasts were in Blackridge recently to tackle the Bing Blazer.
One of Scotland’s top obstacle course races proved to be a big hit once again on May 26 as the runners tackled the various obstacles, monkey bars and also slid down water flumes into mud – all before being pelted with coloured corn starch at the finishing line which made for some vibrant pictures.
Bing Blazer, which was voted the Best Value obstacle course race in the country at the OCR Scotland Awards earlier this year, is run by local company Boom Events Limited.
Director Michael Smith said: “We aim to keep developing the obstacles. Our goal is to produce as much fun as possible on course.
“The new Bing Blazer obstacles have shown creativity and innovation. We also like to include obstacles which promote team work. On course you are never far away from someone who is prepared to give you a foot up a wall. It’s moments like these and the fantastic action shots that create lasting memories for our runners.”
Obstacle course runs are one of the fastest growing sports globally with top athletes competing in the UK, European and World Championships with Bing Blazer and Boom Events’ other West Lothian-based event, Park Life, being the only events in Scotland which allow qualification for the UK and European Championships.
Boom Events director, John Sibbald said: “It has always been important for us that people get value for money. We have built bigger and better obstacles and added a T-shirt, medal, headband, gloves and a wristband to our race packs. We are giving people what they want at a great price”.
Plans are already under way to make next year’s Bing Blazer even bigger and better, while Park Life will take place at Beecraigs Country Park later in the summer, on September 3.
