Livi face Buddies in Cup opener

- Callum Carson

Livingston will kick-off their season at home to St Mirren on July 16 after the League Cup fixtures were announced.

It will be a quick return to the Tony Macaroni Arena for Ben Gordon, whose debut for the Buddies will be against the club he played for last season.

David Hopkin’s men had originally arranged a friendly against the Paisley team for July 9, with a new opposition now likely to take their place.

Just four days later, Livingston travel to Meadowbank Stadium for a competitive fixture for the first time since they left the ground in 1995 to relocate to West Lothian. That contest will be Edinburgh City’s first game as an SPFL team.

The Lions then have six days off before welcoming Ayr United on July 26, and then finish the inaugural Betfred League Cup group stage with a trip to Premiership outfit Hamilton Academical.

Only the winners of the five-team group are guaranteed a place in the second round, with the four best runners-up also progressing.

Livi get their preparations for an assault at the League One title when the players return for pre-season training on June 16 with home friendlies currently arranged against Dunfermline Athletic on July 2 and Greenock Morton on July 6.
