Call to raise cash to help Olivia

- Debbie Hall

A fun d ay of fundraising is being held at Morrisons in Bathgate to help a little girl take her first steps.

Two- year- old Olivia Main has a severe medical condition which means she can’t put any weight on her legs and her mum, Alicia Kerr- McIlwaine, is still waiting on a proper diagnosis from doctors.

But in the meantime, to help the little girl lead as normal a life as possible, a fundraiser has been organised at Morrisons in Bathgate at 3pm, tomorrow ( Friday) to buy a special harness and mobility aid for Olivia to use.

The ‘ Upsee’ harness allows Olivia to be attached to her mum so they can get the feeling of walking together, which should help strengthen her muscles.

A Just Giving page set up ahead of the fundraiser has already hit its target so the additional money will be used for a ‘scoot’ mobility aid so Olivia can get around and play with her three siblings.

The fundrsaiser has been organised by family friend Lorna Leyden, who is the community champion at Morrisons, at 3pm and will include a raffle and relay around the store with some local children who will be sponsored by there friends and family.

The aim is for them to get round the store 50 times by passing the baton and organisers hope as many people as possible will turn up and support the event.

Alicia said she is very grateful to Lorna and the Morrisons staff for organising the fundraiser.

Lorna, whose daughter is friends with Olivia’s brother, said she was only happy to help when she head about the youngster’s condition and enlisted colleagues at Morrisons to get on board.

She added: “She continued: “As community champion at Morrisons Bathgate we want to help the community as best we can, helping raise money for local charities and getting involved as much as we can.”

Alicia has been told her daughter might never walk and is waiting on test results to see if a diagnosis can be made.

But she said the harness would help with many of the ailments she suffers from and the scooter would help her get around better.
