- Marjorie Kerr

Carol McDonald has been appointed as the new head teacher for Armadale Academy.

The former Cedarbank acting head teacher returned to the school as acting head at Easter, and now takes on the position on a permanent basis.

Carol has a genuine affinity for the school, as she is a former Armadale Academy pupil and has spent the majority of her teacher career so far at the school.

Joining as an English teacher in 1996, Carol has also held a variety of student support roles at Armadale, before spending three years as depute head teacher. She is married and has two teenage children.

She said: “I am very proud to be appointed as head teacher in the school and community which shaped and inspired me.

“Now, as a school, we need to tap in further to the expertise within our parental body and community.

“Together, we need to support learner achievement by further developing the skills and qualities our young people require for this ever changing 21st century world.

“I believe my role is to ensure the highest quality of learning experience for every student.

“In Armadale Academy we aim to raise aspirations, break down and overcome barriers to learning and ensure that all learners experience a relevant, motivating and challenging curriculum: a curriculum that prepares them for life, learning and work.”

Executive councillor for education Lawrence Fitzpatrick added: “Congratulations to Carol McDonald on her appointment as new head teacher for Armadale Academy.

“Carol is already known and respected by the Armadale Academy school community, and I’m confident will play a major role in helping the school’s pupils achieve their full potential.”
